This isn't a shelf with its brackets hidden away: the structure is the design. Two vertical battens and two horizontal ones cross off-centre and make an asymmetric grid — closer to a graphic object than to storage.

So it asks for very little on top. Two or three small pieces per level, with empty space between them, and the emptiness is half the effect. Filled to the brim, it loses what makes it itself.

Ten centimetres deep: a frame propped against the wall, a narrow vase, a candle. It won't take books standing up.

Eighty-six centimetres tall by 38 wide — it takes a narrow stretch of wall, the kind left over beside a door or between two windows.

Solid pine with a matte black finish.
