It does two things at once, which is why it exists: on top you put things down, underneath you hang them up. This is the hallway piece — hats, bags, scarves, and the basket or box on top where the keys go.

The top isn't a board: it's woven paper cord over a poplar frame, with the texture on show. It lets air through, which matters if you set a damp hat down on it, and gives the piece a lightness a solid shelf doesn't have.

The five hooks are turned wood, fixed underneath, and spaced far enough apart that two bulky coats won't touch.

Seventy-eight wide by 31 deep — a narrow hallway takes it without losing the passage.
